A Note from the Publisher's Desk

It's already mid-May!  Time sure flies.  What are your kids doing this summer?  Going to a cool summer camp?  Which one?  Let me know by commenting below.  Going to Grandma and Grandpa's house?  Mine will be home with me.  They will probably start driving each other bananas after one whole week together!  HA HA HA  Then it will be time for one or two of them to head to my parents' house for a few days.

This newsletter is geared toward keeping our kids safe this summer and ...

Who is Your Water Watcher?

As a leader in child drowning prevention, Phoenix Children’s Hospital constantly works to convey the very latest evidence-based information to Arizona families. In the wake of two child drownings, Phoenix Children’s reminds all families to ask, “Who is your Water Watcher?”

Last year, a three year old girl drowned in a family pool in Mesa, and a seven year old girl drowned in an above-ground pool in Phoenix. A toddler was sent to a hospital in critical condition from water incident in the bathtub. Five children to date ...

Summer Swim Lessons

Chandler has six awesome pool facilities that offer swim lessons.  Saturday swim classes begin June 2nd and weekday classes begin June 4th.  Visit the Chandler Aquatics website for pool descriptions, locations and to view the complete schedule of swim lessons offered at each.  Happy Swimming!  Babies 6-months-old can have fun and get acquainted with the water in a Parent-Infant class.

If you need a refresher course for your child, SWIMkids USA, Aqua-Tots and Gold Medal Swim School offer "jump start your summer" swim lessons.  These are all indoor, year-round facilities ...

Playing it Safe in the Summer Heat

With summer in full force, many parents are excited to get – and keep – their kids outside and active. However, having kids spend hours on end in the heat can lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Symptoms of heat exhaustion include paleness, muscle cramps, fatigue, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea or vomiting, and fainting. The pulse rate will be fast and weak, and breathing will be fast and shallow. The skin can be cool and moist; sweating may or may not occur. If untreated, heat exhaustion may ...

Facts EVERY Parent Should Know

Do you read every label, on every package of food, every week, at the grocery store? Have you ever feared for your child’s life as you took them to a friend’s birthday party or school celebration? Do you bake most things from scratch so you can control the ingredients? Chances are no, unless you have a child or family member with a life-threatening food allergy.

It is estimated that 15 million Americans have food allergies and there has been a dramatic increase in the last few years by ...

Balloon Flip Flops

My daughter and I just LOVE flip flops! They are a symbol of summer and by far…my favorite summer accessory. I know I’ll always be in the same size (unlike the dreaded summer bathing suits…ha ha!) and they come in oh so many cute varieties! Every year, my daughter sees the “make your own” flip flops at the crafts stores and begs to do them. Well, while the flip flops are cute, the bling, flowers, etc. that you buy to go on them always falls off before ...

Boo Boo Bag

Our little one is known for lots of super fun things and some not so fun... knee scrapes! Oh yeah, if there is a sidewalk to be run down you will catch our 4 year old running at full speed. After several incidents in which we grabbed anything we could find to wipe the area clean we realized we needed a First Aid Kit in the car... then we realized (after an incident involving a piece of glass at the local lake and her tiny foot) we needed even more ...

Rather than turning to toxic bug sprays to fight against mosquito-borne viruses like West Nile and Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), Mom’s everywhere can count on PIC® to help protect their families from dangerous mosquito bites with two unique products that provide maximum protection with all-natural ingredients that don’t need to be applied to skin.
